Goth Swimsuit Ms June

Xotica was Ms June. She was one of the first models to come in from out of town, in this case Austin.

Little bit of Houston trivia, Howard Hughes is buried in Houston in the beautiful Glenwood cemetery. We shot these images kind of commando. Glennwood is cool with people being in the cemetery during the day, but we weren’t sure how they’d react to a woman in a leather bikini.

Goth Swimsuit Ms May

If April was April Showers, then May must be May Flowers.

Here we have model Spleen in a multiple exposure. The suit was specially made for her by the wizards at SINched.

This was an image we shot, but never used. The boots Spleen is wearing have literally 12 inch heels, with a 4 inch at least platform. And she’s standing in the car ramp of our studio. Which is at an angle. We had to help her down then she could carefully stand. Then we needed to fill the ramp with fog, which we did using a fog machine and much dry ice.

April showers with a twist. A drowned model and a man with magic.

This idea was Marc’s and he managed to work himself into another month, though I don’t think that was his plan.

The model was one of only 2 models I would say weren’t goth at all. She was actually tan. Nor is she that gaunt. Heather Stanley, one of the Seraphemera people, looked at her and told her to lay on the ground and just started painting makeup on her. This was the result.

The table is one of those industrial kitchen tables and is still in our studio. I leaned a very big ladder up against the wall, climbed up and shot down.

I paid the models in calendars that they could sell. Ava Ruby is the only one who never got hers. I think she didn’t like the way it turned out. I know it didn’t make her look attractive, but it did make a cool image.

Goth Swimsuit Ms January

We started with the idea of baby – or in this case babe – new year taking over from the old year/father time. Babe was a great idea because we could strip her down a bikini. But we had to put a twist on it of course.

Maybe last year wasn’t quite ready to go.

The model is Skarah Black.

Some points to consider, just to make it interesting. I was just discovering the joy of oiling up model to make them glisten, so we did it Skarah. Didn’t really show up in this image, but it did make her slippery. Which isn’t that great when she’s holding a Bowie knife and kneeling over father time.

Father time is Marc Moorash of Seraphemera Books. Seraphemera was my partner on this and they did a lot of work, including all of the layout of the calendar.

Here’s a couple more. Skarah has a very long tongue, that’s all I’m going to say. The Absinthe picture appeared under the January calendar. Apparently absinthe is very goth.

My Goth Swimsuit Calendar

I mentioned last week when talking about creating interesting work that I had done a Goth Swimsuit calendar. It was shot during the summer of 2006 and was for the year 2007. Since then the website for that calendar has gone away and there really isn’t anywhere you can see the images. So I decided to post all of the images from the calendar here on Glamour Apprentice and give you some of the background behind each one.

First we start with the cover.

Goth Swimsuit Calendar Cover Image

The cover was not shot first. It was almost last. For the calendar a few models come in from out of town. There were two that were considered “headliners” for the calendar, Angela Ryan, the redhead, and Athena Fatale, the bad ass. The weekend they were going to be in town I contacted the guy who provided January’s hearse and he brought a buddy with another hearse for a “hearse car wash”. The carwash being a staple of swimsuit calendars and hearse’s being a staple of goth. Then I contacted a number of the local models to come down and shot them with the hearses. Getting the cover.

The Models from left to right:
Ankha, Ms. March,
Ivory, Ms December,
Angela Ryan, Ms. July,
Scarlett St. Vitus, Ms October,
Athena Fatale, Ms August, and
Spleen, Ms May.

Scarlett Post Apocalypse Golden Hour

This was on the bottom floor of a gutted building. I think it used to be a hotel or a business building. Now this part is a garage and the building is full of condos.

It was late in the day and we got that wonderful golden hour light. The outfit she had on just screamed Mad Max and I love the image. She was a trooper climbing up on old machinery and crawling around in the dirt.

Graffiti with Scarlett

This is just a few feet from the greed door that was the background of the last picture of Scarlett. It was right after this shot, with a stop at a pole she had to pose dancing next too, that she fell down.

The boots she’s wearing were literally 12 inches heels. Had like 4 or 5 inches platforms on the front. You don’t move quickly and if you do you end up on your ass. Which she did.

I now walk with in arms reach of any model in heels moving from one place to another or down stairs.

Scarlett Award Winning Goth

OK, so the award was at a church art festival. Which come to think of it that is a tough audience. For a goth image. But it won best photograph.

Scarlett is an award winner to. She was Ms Spooky.

And at this shoot she fell on her ass trying to hurry across the abandoned building in 12 inch heels, teaching me to stay near models. We all freaked out when it happen, thinking she might be hurt. But she just laid on the ground and laughed.
